Version 2.0 — 23 September 2026
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy describes how Full Join B.V. ("Full Join", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on Databeamer's public website and within the Databeamer application.

Databeamer has been developed with privacy and information security as key principles. We do not use cookies for advertising purposes and do not use cookies to track visitors across different websites.
There is an important distinction between:
- Databeamer's public website, which is accessible without an account; and
- the Databeamer application, in which cookies and similar technologies are needed, among other things, for authentication, session management, security, and certain user preferences.
This Cookie Policy should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Statement, which describes in more detail how we process personal data.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small data files that a website can store in the browser on your device.
Cookies can serve various functions. For example, they may be needed to keep a user logged in, to carry out a security check, or to remember a particular user preference.
In addition to cookies, websites and web applications may use other ways of storing data on, or reading data from, your device, such as localStorage, sessionStorage and IndexedDB. The law treats these technologies in the same way as cookies. Databeamer uses these in certain important respects; Chapter 7 describes which.
Not every cookie contains personal data. Depending on the content and use of a cookie, however, the information involved may be considered personal data.
3. No cookie banner: why not
Databeamer does not display a cookie banner and does not ask for your consent for cookies. This is not an oversight, but the result of a deliberate choice.
Under Article 11.7a of the Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet), consent is not required for:
- cookies used solely to carry out communication over a network; and
- cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service requested by the user.
We place only cookies that fall within these exceptions:
- Necessary cookies are needed to log in securely, maintain a session, and protect the application against attacks. Without these cookies, the service you have requested will not work.
- Functional cookies only remember a choice you have made yourself, such as your language preference or whether you want the sidebar expanded or collapsed. They are not used to track you, profile you, or analyze your behavior.
We use no analytics cookies within the application, no advertising or marketing cookies, no tracking pixels, and no cookies from advertising platforms. For the web statistics on our public website, we use a solution that works without cookies (see §4.2).
Because no non-essential cookies are placed, there is nothing for which we would need to ask your consent, and therefore no banner is shown. Should we start using non-essential cookies or similar technologies in the future, we will ask for your consent in advance and update this Cookie Policy accordingly.
4. Cookies on the public website
4.1 No advertising or tracking cookies
On Databeamer's public website, we do not use cookies for:
- personalized advertising;
- advertising profiles;
- cross-site tracking;
- tracking visitors across different websites;
- selling or sharing visitor profiles with advertisers.
We also do not use marketing pixels or similar technologies for advertising purposes.
4.2 Web statistics
We use Plausible Analytics for limited statistics on the use of our public website.
Plausible is configured on our website in such a way that no tracking cookies or comparable persistent identifiers are used for this purpose.
These statistics are intended to give us insight into the general use and functioning of our website, for example which pages are visited and how visitors use the website.
Plausible is used exclusively on the public website and not as an analytics tool for the content of Databeamer workspaces.
5. Cookies within the Databeamer application
Within the secure Databeamer application, we use cookies that are necessary for the functioning and security of the service. These are limited to:
- Necessary cookies; these are needed for the operation, security and authentication of the Databeamer application. Without these cookies, parts of the application, such as secure login and maintaining a session, cannot function properly.
- Functional cookies; these remember a preference you have set yourself, such as your language choice or the state of the sidebar. These cookies are not intended for, and are not used for, tracking or advertising purposes. They therefore fall under the same exception as necessary cookies, as explained in Chapter 3. You can block them; in that case, you will need to set your preferences again each time.
We use no analytics cookies within the application, no advertising or marketing cookies, no tracking pixels, and no cookies from advertising platforms.
These cookies are used for:
- securely carrying out the login process, including the OAuth2 authorization step with PKCE;
- maintaining an active session;
- protection against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF);
- correctly completing the logout process with the identity service;
- remembering certain user preferences.
These cookies are placed by Databeamer itself.
The login screen. The login itself takes place on Databeamer's identity service, which runs on its own address. That service places its own necessary cookies at that address for the login process and the session. These cookies are likewise strictly necessary and are not used for tracking or advertising.
6. Overview of cookies
The table below describes the cookies placed by the Databeamer application.
| Cookie | Purpose | Provider | Category | Retention period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
db_session |
Maintains your logged-in session and provides secure access to your account. Its content is encrypted. | Databeamer | Necessary | 30 days |
db_pkce |
Secures the login step. Contains the temporary values for OAuth2 PKCE and the CSRF token, which together prevent a login request from being intercepted or forged. | Databeamer | Necessary | 10 minutes |
db_auth_retry |
Prevents you from ending up in a repeated redirect after a failed login attempt. | Databeamer | Necessary | Session |
db_logout_hint |
Enables you to be correctly logged out of the identity service. Only available on the logout page. | Databeamer | Necessary | Session |
sidebar_state |
Remembers whether you want the sidebar expanded or collapsed. | Databeamer | Functional | 7 days |
PARAGLIDE_LOCALE |
Remembers your chosen language. | Databeamer | Functional | 1 year |
All cookies in this overview are placed by Databeamer itself. No third-party cookies are included.
6.1 Currency of this overview
The technical implementation of a web application can change. We therefore periodically check whether this overview still matches the actual implementation, and update it where necessary. The version number and date at the top of this document indicate which version applies.
7. Storage on your device outside of cookies
In addition to cookies, the Databeamer application also stores data in your browser's storage facilities. This is necessary for the operation of the zero-knowledge architecture: key material that the server must not see needs to be stored somewhere else, namely on your own device.
We distinguish three categories.
7.1 Cryptographic storage
This data is necessary to be able to use Databeamer and never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to our servers and is not accessible to us.
| What | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| This device's key share | IndexedDB | Together with your PIN, this share provides access to your encrypted data. Without this share, this device cannot decrypt your content. | Until you unlink this device or clear your browser data |
| Your unlocked session keys | sessionStorage | Ensures you do not have to re-enter your PIN after refreshing a page. | Until you close the tab |
Clearing your browser's storage removes this device's key share. You can then regain access via another device or via your recovery data.
7.2 Functional preferences
This data remembers a choice you have made yourself. It is stored in localStorage, remains on your device, and is not used for tracking or profiling.
This includes, among other things:
- the expanded or collapsed state of the sidebar and menu groups;
- your preference for the application's background;
- whether you have completed the application's onboarding tour;
- which version of the "what's new" overview you have already seen;
- up to which point you have read an activity overview, so that new items remain recognizable.
7.3 Technical helper values
This data is needed to make the application work reliably. It is stored in localStorage and contains no content from your messages or files.
This includes, among other things:
- the sequence number of the last real-time message received, so that after a brief connection interruption, precisely the missed messages can be retrieved instead of everything being reloaded;
- an optional local cache for documents you are collaborating on, so that a document opens faster. This cache is off by default and can be enabled by you, per device.
7.4 Management
You can manage this storage in the same way as cookies, through your browser settings. Please note that clearing this storage affects the cryptographic data described in §7.1 (see the explanation there).
8. No cookies for advertising or user profiling
Databeamer does not use cookies for:
- personalized advertising;
- advertising tracking;
- cross-site tracking;
- commercial user profiling;
- tracking users across third-party websites.
We do not sell or rent personal data to advertisers.
9. Third-party cookies
The necessary and functional cookies within the Databeamer application are placed by Databeamer itself. The identity service that handles the login screen is likewise managed and hosted by Full Join itself; no external identity provider is involved.
On the public website, we use Plausible Analytics for limited web statistics. Our implementation of this does not use tracking cookies.
We do not use advertising platforms or other services that place marketing or tracking cookies via our website.
10. Managing and blocking cookies
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. For example, you can:
- delete existing cookies;
- block cookies;
- set your browser to warn you when a cookie is placed;
- disable certain types of cookies.
Please note that blocking necessary cookies will affect the functioning of the Databeamer application. For example, you may no longer be able to log in securely or use your session correctly.
You can also block functional cookies; in that case, certain preferences will need to be set again.
The same browser settings apply to storage outside of cookies. Please first read §7.1: clearing this storage also removes this device's key share.
11. Cookies and personal data
Cookies may contain information needed to recognize a session or preference.
Where such information can, directly or indirectly, be traced back to a person, we treat it as personal data and process it in accordance with our Privacy Statement and applicable privacy legislation.
The cookies used for authentication and security form part of Databeamer's technical security measures, described in the Security Policy. We do not use these cookies for advertising purposes.
12. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may amend this Cookie Policy where our website, application, technical implementation, or statutory obligations change.
Where we start using new categories of cookies or similar technologies, we will update this Cookie Policy accordingly. Where these are non-essential technologies, we will ask for your consent in advance.
The version number and date at the top of this document indicate which version applies.
13. Relationship to other documents
This Cookie Policy should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Statement. That statement describes in more detail:
- which personal data we process;
- for which purposes we process personal data;
- our legal bases;
- with which parties data may be shared;
- how we secure personal data;
- how long we retain personal data;
- what rights data subjects have.
This Cookie Policy is limited to the use of cookies and similar technologies.
