Your Encryption Might Be Lying to You: Invisible Salamanders and Partitioning Oracles

Most encryption schemes used today (AES-GCM, ChaCha20/Poly1305) don't guarantee that a ciphertext can only decrypt to one plaintext under one key. Invisible Salamanders and Partitioning Oracle attacks exploit this gap to deceive recipients and recover secrets. We explain how these attacks work, why they matter for any system handling encrypted data across multiple parties, and how Databeamer's encryption layer addresses them.
